In cases where it is high but stable, it should be checked at least once every week or fortnight. In hospitalized patients, blood pressure is taken at least twice a day, while in case of those who are very sick, like those admitted

to Intensive care unit, it is continuously monitored.

In many cases unrelated with heart disease, the blood pressure is recorded at the time a patient is admitted to the hospital.

In all cases of sudden loss of consciousness; in all cases of severe headache associated with vomiting; in cases of restlessness or palpitations; in cases of excessive breathlessness; in cases of body swelling (EDEMA) and in all cases of unexplained bleeding from any part of the body, blood pressure must be checked at the earliest, and very often it may need to be monitored.

4. ... in Case of Certain Symptoms / Signs Suggesting Hypotension (Low Blood Pressure)

In cases of fainting, severe weakness or tiredness, severe bleeding, severe vomiting and diarrhea, blood pressure should be checked immediately. In all these cases a fall in blood pressure is an ominous sign requiring urgent treatment.

Thus, blood pressure checking is one of easier ways to confirm the status of health. Blood pressure is checked very frequently in cases of seriously sick patients. The main indication of this action is a worsening of a health or the development of one of common complications like stroke.
